3 Ingredient Sticky Barbecue Chicken
Three ingredients and a timer for basting the chicken several times are all you need to make the best Sticky Barbecue Chicken in the oven!
You may be wondering how can 3 ingredients magically create a super sticky barbecue baked chicken. I’m here to tell ya that it is all about the frequency of basting.
Ingredients needed
- chicken thighs or drumsticks
- thick barbecue sauce
- extra-virgin olive oil or canola oil
Basting is the secret!
While there is nothing difficult about this recipe, it does require you to keep an eye on a timer and to baste thickly several times. That is the secret so please don’t baste once and call it a day if you really want that nice, sticky barbecue sauce.

What type of barbecue sauce works for this recipe
Use your favorite thick barbecue sauce. I liked Sweet Baby Ray’s for this as it is a thick sauce to begin with and it turned out great in this recipe. I would recommend a thicker sauce to get that sticky texture.

- 2 cups of your favorite thick barbecue sauce

- Remove chicken from oven and turn the temperature of the oven up to 425 degrees.

- Remove from oven, baste the top with barbecue sauce, and place back in oven for 7 more minutes.
- Remove from the oven again and baste again, for a total of three times, and place back in oven for 7 more minutes.
