Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper Sheets
  • Toothpicks

Ingredients

  • 3 (8 ounce) cans whole water chestnuts drained (About 36 total)
  • 1 lb. sliced bacon cut into thirds (About 36 pieces total)

For the sauce:

  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • Garnish: toothpicks

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375-f degrees. Spray a large baking dish with cooking spray and set aside. Soak the toothpicks in water for a few minutes.
  • Cut the bacon into thirds. Wrap each piece of cut bacon around a water chestnut and secure with a toothpick. Put in lightly sprayed baking dish. Continue until all the water chestnuts are wrapped in bacon and are in your baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the sauce ingredients and stir well. Pour over the bacon wrapped water chestnuts. Try not to get the sauce on the toothpicks if you can help it. If any toothpicks accidentally get super coated in sauce, use a paper towel to remove excess sauce on the tooth pick. (The sauce can burn on the toothpick)
  • Bake for 30-45 minutes. Ovens vary so check them at 30 minutes to be safe. If needed, lightly cover with foil to render more of the fat out from the bacon and prevent burning.

Notes

Sizes vary for whole water chestnuts and for how many strips of bacon come in a pack. Aim for equal amounts of each and adjust as necessary. If needed you could cut a few of the chestnuts in half to get a few extra servings to match your strips of bacon.
