Amish Meatloaf

Amish Meatloaf is perfectly sweet and tender with the added bonus of being quick and easy to make. Serve alongside your favorite roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes for a comforting meal.

I can’t rave enough about this Amish Meatloaf recipe. It is outstanding and has been a family favorite for many years.

Amish Meatloaf definitely leans towards the sweeter side as far as meatloaves go, owing to some brown sugar in the meat mixture itself, as well as the ketchup topping. I like to offset that sweetness by having green vegetables and mashed potatoes on the side.

  1. I just ate breakfast, but this made me hungry because I love meat loaf. Also? I really like to eat the left overs for breakfast. 🙂

I'm totally giving this a try.

  3. i made this and loved it! Thanks for sharing…we added a little honey in too. While we have meat on our minds, you might like my infamous Cheeseburger Pie recipe….

  4. I am going to try this recipe. I never thought of adding brown sugar to my meatloaf before.

  5. Have made this twice, and is now my go-to meatloaf recipe!! (And I really liked my mom's recipe until this one… shhhh) This is delicious~ love everything about it.

  6. Hi Ali:
I'm only a 'home cook', not a chef, but I've been cooking for a long time. I thought that I've perfected Meatloaf over the years, but I'll definately make this Amish Meatloaf. It's easy to prepare, and adding the brown suger must give it a very interesting flavor. I've always added chopped green peppers to my meatloaf, but I'll make this Meatloaf just as it's written. (Don't ya' just hate it when people 'tweak' your original recipe?)

  7. Now, THIS is more like Mom's than any other I've seen!!! She's also used saltines sometimes. And yeah, she added the green peppers! I've never understood just pouring tomato sauce on top. That nice, thick baked ketchup is a kid's idea of DIVINE. Yum…mom served hers with mashed potatoes and peas. With a peach half stuffed with cottage cheese. Dang, girl…you've just made me really hungry.

  8. I made it like a month ago. FIRST TIME MAKING MEATLOAF might I add. And my son and hubby LOVED it! I am making it again tonight!

  9. I have been making this meatloaf for over a year now. I love it. My modifications have been to add just a little a couple of tablespoons of worcestershire to the meatloaf recipe for a more rounded taste. To the topping, I add couple of tablespoons of corn syrup and brown sugar to complement the brown sugar in the meatloaf. It is delicious without adding anything. But my add-ins, make it the tops.

    1. I'll try out your tweaks next time I make this. I actually made two meatloaves last night using this recipe. It is a goodie 🙂

  10. your stupid site just printed out 15 pages of photos and no recipe! wake up to yourself and make it work! you are destroying the planet!!!

    1. Under every post on this website there is a green "PRINT" button that allows you pick and choose what you want to print. You can also copy and paste a recipe into a word document so that you only print the recipe. You can also simply highlight the text and choose to print the 'selected text.'

There are a lot of options for you, but I guess instead you would rather act like a complete fool.

Love this recipe! I use the meatloaf blend, beef, veal, pork. Sold in most grocery stores. I also use 2-3 slices of bacon and chili sauce on top. My mother’s version.
