Yum! This is the kind of easy and gooey and tasty dish my family will love. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI've died and gone to heaven! I made a casserole similar to this except that I used tortillas for the layers rather than Doritos. It was fabulous! I'm sure with the Doritos' texture, it would add something to it. YUM!!
ReplyDeleteI don't care for the nacho cheese Doritos in it. I use regular Doritos
DeleteI used chili cheese fritos, yum.
DeleteOMGosh, that sounds auh-ma-zing! Thanks for linking up to Mad Skills Monday!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh my 8 year old would love this - a dinner that incorporates Doritos! And that recipe over there for Choc. Dipped PB Krispies is SCREAMING at me to make them!! Yum....glad to meet your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Mangia Mondays!
This is a recipe my mom made for us growing up, and I actually just made it last night for my family! We always called it Mexican Chicken.
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy!! I will be trying this recipe real soon.I just became a follower and hope you return the favor! Thanks
ReplyDeleteLOL, I just discovered you through Laura's blog (cooking photographer) but I already see we have a few things in common. I also call this trash food but I'm not quite as PC about it b/c I add "white" before the "trash." You know that taco salad made with Doritos, taco meat, and entire bottle of Catalina/French dressing, tons of cheese and a little lettuce? Yup. White trash taco salad. Loves it! I know I would love this one too. Wonder what that says about me? ;)
ReplyDeleteHah - reciperhapsody: The original text for this I called it White Trash food, but I ended up editing it cause I was like, do I write that, is it rude? But yeah, that's what I call it in my head anyways. :)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah and I totally know that salad you are referring to. That is a good one. :D
oh my gosh!!! i want trashy food!!! i need to make this ASAP! lol thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThis looks like yummy "trash food"! I would have the best time putting on the 5 pounds while eating it!
ReplyDeleteAnything served with a salad fits into my def of a healthy meal. Also, if it has cheese. Just saying. This is one my list for next week. (:
ReplyDeletethat looks so yummy! thanks for sharing this at my party!

ReplyDeleteSecond, Jam Hands! I love it! You were a Gilmore Girls fan weren't you?
Found you at Whassup Wednesday and now a new follower (probably just because of Jam Hands. :) Actually, no because your recipes look great.)
Love this casserole! Instead of cheese we use Mexican Velvetta and serve over rice.
ReplyDeleteYummy!
I've seen this all over Pinterest and finally made it for dinner tonight. Oh my goodness...it was so good! We all loved it!
ReplyDeletehi - what kind of doritos? plain or nacho cheese?
ReplyDeleteThis is dinner tonight! I can't wait to try it!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Amazing!!! I used beef instead of chicken and it was really good
ReplyDeleteWas wondering if anyone used beef instead
DeleteI just made this tonight with my left over turkey from thanksgiving! So yummy!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and it was delicious!!! I used the spicy nacho doritos and it was perfect!
ReplyDeleteMine is never this creamy what did you do different?
ReplyDeleteI found this recipe yesterday and made it for diner. It was yummy. I used low-fat (1%) yogurt instead of sour cream, plus, I did not use as much milk and instead of Doritos, I used tortilla chips because I had them at home. I was surpirsed at home much my husband like it. :)
ReplyDeleteWould it taste ok with beef instead of chicken if you dont have chicken??
ReplyDeleteWould anyone think black beans and/or corn would go well with this? I'm making it tonight for the first time! Thanks so much! Found you off Pinterest!
ReplyDeletebeans and corn would be awesome to put in this!
DeleteI'm trying this tonight, but subbing the chicken and cream of chicken soup for ground beef and cream of onion soup. I'll let you know how it turns out.
ReplyDeletethe bridgerbrigade - how did it turn out with beef and onion?
DeleteCan you make this the day before?
ReplyDeleteHannah - You could make it but don't add any chips to it, otherwise they will get super soggy.
ReplyDeleteHannah, I've cooked the chicken and made the mix (not including chips) ahead of time and just covered it and stashed it all in the fridge...that way when I get home from work, the only part that's left is crushing the doritos, putting it in the pan, and baking. :)
DeleteSo would this be good without the doritos baked in it.... like served over doritos? I was just thinking the if warmed up the next day, the doritos would be soggy. This sounds so delicious though that I can not wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteI make this but I use hamburger meat instead. Brown the meat, drain, add one can cream of chicken, one can enchilada sauce, some milk and then pour this mixture over the Doritos top with loads of cheese and bake at 350 for 30 min. my niece and nephew tear this up!
ReplyDeletef you just use regular tortilla chips this is pretty much just "chilequiles" - my favorite mexcian dish.
ReplyDeleteAre you supposed to drain the tomatoes? Iam making this tonight:)
ReplyDeleteI can't WAIT to make this!
ReplyDeleteDevi
http://diddlesanddumplings.blogspot.com
This looks soooo good.....can you put it in a slow cooker?
ReplyDeleteyum - sounds alot like King Ranch casserole which I love as well.
ReplyDeleteDo you drain your rotel ? Making this tonight!!
ReplyDeleteHailey - Sorry I am late getting back to you. I made this quit a while back and I can't remember for sure if I drained them or not. If you are unsure, I'd go with draining them.
ReplyDeleteI made this last night but used salsa, green onions and added egg noodles. It was really good, next time I will omit the noodle idea for some reason I didn't think this would be much of a meal and got it in my head to add them, and it just didn't need them. =)
ReplyDeleteI added black beans and corn to it, and it was so dang good!
ReplyDeleteAM TOTALLY going to make this tomorrow night for dinner - thanks to Denise above - I think black beans and corn are a GREAT idea and a good way to add to this dish. Can't wait to make it!
ReplyDeletejust got this out of the oven. it smells wonderful and tastes even better!! Even my picky toddler is eating!
ReplyDeleteSo glad your family enjoyed this Alicia :)
Deletejust got this out of the oven. it smells wonderful and tastes even better!! Even my picky toddler is eating!
ReplyDeleteOh wow this looks delicious. Am going to buy some Dorito's and then make this :)
ReplyDeleteIf I can hid the dbag of Doritos from my family long enough, this will be dinner this week! Sounds fantastic. Pinned.
ReplyDeleteThis may sound like a dumb question but how do you get the chicken shredded?
ReplyDeleteThis may sound like a dumb question but how do you get the chicken shredded?
ReplyDeleteI put mine in a crock pot with some chicken broth on low for 4 hours then pull apart with two forks
ReplyDeleteCampbell's has a soup called "fiesta nacho cheese" that would taste awesome in place of the cream of chicken.
ReplyDeleteI made this when it was my turn for Bunko. I made it two ways. I replaced the chicken in your original recipe with ground beef and left out the tomatoes because a few of the ladies don't like them. The other version used chicken and replaced the taco seasoning with a ranch dressing mix and Ranch Doritos. It was fabulous. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThank-you SO much for sharing this recipe... instant hit I've made it 2 times this week LOL :) P.S. For the chicken I used one of those rotisserie chickens from the grocery store and just ripped it apart because I'm lazy :)
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight and it was quite yummy! My boyfriend is a big fan of the Doritos tacos at Taco Bell, so he of course liked this. I made it jut as the recipe stated EXCEPT I slow-cooked my chicken all afternoon and when I did, I threw in cumin, garlic, chili and cayenne powders for some extra flavor. I used Aldi's store-brand of Doritos and they worked out perfectly along with their brands of cheese, sour cream and Rotel. Not sure I loved it enough to make it all the time, but the boyfriend just went back for seconds, so it will be made at least once a month, I'm sure. Thanks for sharing the recipe!:)
ReplyDeleteIt am making this right now, and it already looks good, but you could have made some things more clear, I just got to the part where it says to top with more cheese, and I don't have any- you didn't say to reserve any for the end. I am sure it will be great though.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for this recipe! its one of our favorites.. i make it about once a week! its amazing! there are never any leftovers! i use a few chicken breasts and just cut them into strips like for fajitas.. it seems easier to me and also more texture than shredding the chicken. also when i was out of rotel once i used salsa and it was just as good:)
ReplyDeleteIs there something I can supstitute for the Ro-tel?? Not a fan and the rest sounds so good. How would it be without it??
ReplyDeleteCan add diced tomatoes, and a bit of crushed chili peppers to taste.
DeleteThis sounds REALLY good! I make a similar recipe that uses salsa instead of Rotel. We love it!
ReplyDeleteI just made this and it is DELICIOUS! My whole family loves it!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteThis casserole is SO good. Definitely one to make the taste buds do a little dance :) I posted it in my blog and was sure to give you credit for it!!!
ReplyDeleteCajunLady
This looks so yummy! Will be making it this week...:)
ReplyDeleteI found this recipe through a pin on pinterest...it looked so yummy I hadt try it! Using a broasted chicken from the deli it was super easy and jut as yummy as it looks...thanks for a great recipe. I am now a follower and can't wait to try more of your recipes...
ReplyDeleteHave a yummy day! :)
Just made this! its soo good! thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner tonight when my mom and sister stopped by for dinner! I adjusted the recipe a little but it was delicious nonetheless! I added a cup of plain long grain rice and didn't do the layers. I just mixed all the ingredients together minus the Doritos. Spread the rice mixture into a 13x9 glass baking dish. Topped with chips and cheese! So yummy! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe rice was cooked beforehand! Sorry, forgot to add that tidbit!
DeleteThanks for sharing your twist on the recipe Courtney :) It sounds delish.
DeleteAh wow! I might have to do a veggie version with faux chicken!
ReplyDeleteI have had a lifelong obsession with Doritos and I thought I had it all under control but then I moved to a new job where they sell them in the cafeteria and now the floodgates have opened and I want to Dorito everything up... they are just so good.
Just found your blog and I love it! I signed up for email alerts, look forward to seeing what is next!
Does anyone else have a problem spreading the chicken mixture over the doritos?
ReplyDeleteThis looks really easy and really yummy!I'll have to try it for the family this week. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so yummy! I cant wait to make it for my boys. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJust so I can be sure.. are you using cheese doritos, another flavor or the plain?
ReplyDeleteRegular Nacho Cheese :)
DeleteI've made a similar recipe like his using rice cream of celery an velveeta cheese with doritos on top mmmmmm mmmm good
ReplyDeleteWhat if you need to makr extra do.you just double up the recipe???????
ReplyDeleteSure you can double the recipe if you want :)
DeleteJust made this tonight. Kid finger-licking approved. Tossed some in a taco shell for a different take.
ReplyDeletehttp://chaoswithacurve.blogspot.com/2013/05/experimenting-on-my-family-dorito.html
Found this on Pinterest. I usually make it with Cream of mushroom instead of the sour cream and milk, plain tortilla chips and no taco seasoning. I will try this version when my picky eater moves out.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried making this in a crock pot?
ReplyDeleteThis recipes is the best we love it!
ReplyDeleteDo you drain the Rotel? going to make right now but that wasn't stated..
ReplyDeleteHi Melinda - I honestly don't recall if I did - but I think either way it will be fine :)
DeleteDon't drain the rotel, it's a mix not like diced tomatoes
DeleteI used Taco Flavored doritos instead. It was so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds delicious :)
DeleteThis is so good! I've made it twice. My step daughter asks for it every time she comes up. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feedback! I'm glad to hear you guys enjoy it :)
DeleteThis looks amazing! My family owns a dairy so obviously I'm a cheese hound! Pinning and making soon!
ReplyDeleteI have made this several times now... it is my go-to dinner for guests... thank you SO much for posting it!! SO delicious and easy for a beginner like me!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear it Katie. Thanks for the feedback :)
ReplyDeletegoing to try it with low fat soup, sour cream, and cheese and baked doritos....trying to be a bit healthier
ReplyDeleteI have made this before and it was awesome and I just got through making it again and stuck it in the oven and remembered..I left out the milk and sour cream! :/
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope it is still good Tara :)
DeleteIt was ok, right? Just a little dry?
DeleteI've been making a version of this since 1971 !! My kids, all grown now, love it and they all have the recipe. I always make it with chopped green chilis, and sometimes medium Salsa by Pace. I don't add the Rotel tomatoes. Nor do I add sour cream or milk. However, I do use Cr. of Chicken and Cr. of Mushroom soups with a rotisseried chicken, and LOTS of sharp cheddar cheese or a blend. YUMMO!
ReplyDeleteIt's the best kind of comfort food! I serve it with Spanish Rice and Ranch Beans. Sometimes I also serve my homemade Salsa alongside it. THANKS, Ali!
I made this and it was delicious, it was a little spicy so if you don't like spicy stuff I'd maybe just do tomatoes instead of the Rotel.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feedback Debby!
DeleteThey make mild rotel now
DeleteCould you substitute ground beef instead of using the chicken? Maybe that wouldn't be as good as I'm picturing but just wondering! :)
ReplyDeleteI think so Emily :) Let me know how it turns out if you try it.
DeleteI have done it with ground beef and I find that it tastes way better!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip Laura :)
DeleteThis was SO good! I made it for my dad who happens to be rather picky and he ate several servings. :-) Thanks! Great way to use up the Doritos I had so that my kids wouldn't have those yellow cheesy hands - you know what I mean. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat size dorito bag do you use?
ReplyDeleteThe regular size (not family or party size which are much larger)
DeleteHas anyone tried this with Ground beef or ground turkey instead of chicken?
ReplyDeleteyes and it works great with ground beef, turkey and chicken
DeleteHas anyone made this ahead and reheated?
ReplyDeleteHow many people does it serve? Did you serve it over rice? I'm trying to make it for about 150 adults.
ReplyDeleteAs written up above it serves about 6. No I didn't serve it over rice. Just as is.
ReplyDeleteWhat cheese works best? Mozz.? Cheddar? Mixed?
ReplyDeleteI liked a mixed blend of cheese personally. Use whatever you have that you prefer.
