Deep thoughts & the future of this blog.

Let's sit and chit chat for a few, shall we? I've felt the need to address the fact that over the past year to year and a half, I've been pretty antisocial and not very 'present' on my own blog.

I don't talk about personal stuff very often because it is just a little uncomfortable for me to do. I'm giving it a shot though.

Starting over is pretty stressful. Moving is stressful. So is divorce, even the best of divorces where you don't fight about things, it still takes a toll. All of those things I have been going through and dealing with the past year. My way of coping when I am upset is to shut down. I don't talk much and I kinda go into hiding. That led to my little blog feeling quite abandoned for some time.

The bright side to all of this is I finally feel like I am ready to be back. Time has passed, you move on, you adjust to your new way of life, and I am ready to move forward with mine. This has led me to think about a few things regarding this website.

  • I want visitors to know that I appreciate their time and comments. I am committed to responding to as many as I possibly can.
  • I want to update more regularly.
  • I want my blog to feel like a community. I want everyone to feel welcome and like they can talk to me or other visitors.
  • I want to share with my readers other blogs that I think they will really love.
  • I need this blog to become a reliable source of income for me and my two children. I have two ads that I have had on my blog for a long time that don't get in the way (I hope).  I might try some new methods to earn revenue and see how it goes but I will never compromise the integrity of my blog just to get free stuff. This blog will never become overrun with 'sponsored posts.'
That was a lot of personal stuff for someone who is extremely uncomfortable with sharing. I am really excited to get back on track. May I just say I am really ready for Summer to be over and I am itching for snow and Christmas music already? Hah!

Oh and I almost forgot. Jam Hands hit 2 million visitors yesterday! Is it alright if I say woot woot?

  1. Ali, I'm sending you a virtual hug right now. Thank you for being so candid about your personal life. I'm sorry you've had to go through the wringer of divorce. I pray that God will heal your broken heart and will bless you as you endeavor to take care of your sweet family. Have a great week.

  2. Ali, I am so sorry that you had to go through that. Divorce is awful, even in the best of circumstances. I am glad that you shared about it, though. Now you have a whole other group of people who are thinking of you and praying for you. I am very glad to see you back and I think it's great to have something like this to focus on during difficult times. Congrats on 2 million visitors. That is awesome!

  4. Maybe once you start posting more regularly, I'll start cooking more regularly and will have something to share or take from it. Blogging is a lot of work sometimes, especially when you're depending on it for income.

  5. I'm glad you feel like things are more on track. I know exactly what you mean by pulling back. I've been stressed about school and so my blog has suffered, even this summer when I have technically had time, I've sort of avoided dealing. Anyways. You are my absolute favorite food blogger, so I'll be happy to visit you more often again. :)

    1. Yay Jen :) I think we all go through some ups and downs and we have to pull back from things at times. It is a good thing to step back and just live life and not feel like you have to blog every moment of it.

  8. I just found your blog today from a link in another blog, and read this post. As a divorced (and remarried) woman, I know what you are going through, and believe me when I say it does get better! Believe in yourself and you will not only survive; you and your children will THRIVE! I will be a regular reader, so know that you are in my thoughts.

  10. Few things:

    1. I love seeing new posts on this blog. Mostly because almost every recipe I read and immediately want to try. Granted I don't make most of them either because of skill or time, but I'm rarely disappointed by the recipe
    2. I can totally appreciate your reluctance to share and you're not alone in the shutting down when upset.
    3. I know it's hard to post personal updates, and in some ways they don't exactly fit with a food blog, but I think they allow for a more personal connection to you blog then otherwise.
    4. The chicken pesto pizza is still a huge hit in our house and we love to make it for guests.

Take care, and best of luck

  11. It's hard for me to open up to people too, I'm glad you're on the road back. I had to laugh because I am listening to Christmas music as I write this. I am so ready for cooler weather, and snow.

  12. Sounds like you have done a lot of thinking and I wish you the best of luck as you move forward.
I'm a newer follower and don't comment often but hey maybe since you plan to be more open I can try to :)

  13. Ali, thank you for opening up to us and I am sorry for all you have been going through. I am the same in the blog world--I prefer to keep it less personal. I have not mentioned on my blog that I actually have been going through the same exact thing as you. We separated in December, I moved out in April and we are proceeding with the divorce. I have been in survival mode for the past 8 months so my blog has been my last priority. I still enjoy it but we'll see how long I can keep it going. I am working full-time now and will probably have to go back to school to earn a higher degree for more earning potential. Not what I planned at the age of 47. Life is what happens though right? Here's to a better future for both of us!

However, it sounds like you are getting back on your feet and ready for a new life for you and your children. So You go girl!!!! Wishing you the very best! 15. Hi Ali, sorry I'm so late to see this! I'm sorry you've been through some rough times, and glad you're to a point where you're ready to move forward. I understand needing to get some income from your blog. I never wanted to do that, for fear blogging (something I do for fun) would start to fee like a j-o-b, but I finally signed up for ads and am very happy it hasn't changed the way I feel b/c we are really needing the money now! No shame in that! And your ads never bothered me-almost everyone has them. Congrats on 2 million views!! You rock!
