Honey Butter Fried Corn

Canned corn is elevated to incredible with this recipe for Honey Butter Fried Corn. Melted butter, corn, whole milk (or cream) and a bit of sugar or honey create the most delicious vegetable side dish.

If you have a sweet tooth I am betting you will enjoy this side dish. We enjoyed it so much that we made this twice in one week. Now, given the ingredients you won’t want to eat like this on a regular basis, but for comfort food to indulge it, it hits the spot.

Canned is actually better than frozen

The original recipe called for frozen corn (16 oz.), but many reviewers remarked that the frozen corn turned out tough and to try using canned corn instead. I did use canned corn, and it was so good, I won’t even worry about making a special trip to buy frozen corn for this.

  • 15 ounce can of corn drained
  • alternatively you can use 1 1/2 cups fresh corn. Frozen corn not recommended. See notes.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 1/3 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 4 tablespoons butter. When butter is foamy add the corn stirring to coat with the butter. Cook, stirring frequently for 1 minute. Add sugar or honey and cook for 2 minutes more.
  • Increase heat to high and add heavy cream. Continue to stir so corn won't stick to pan. Add salt and pepper. Cook corn until most all of the cream has absorbed about 5+ minutes more. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Notes

Nutritional information is based on using whole milk.
The original recipe posted at the Food Network remarked that using frozen corn created a ‘tough’ corn. I recommend canned corn, possibly fresh as well, though I haven’t tried fresh for this recipe. Recipe from Food Network

  1. My MIL introduced me to this down home recipe years ago. The very best is with sweet corn straight from the cob. First, you cut off the kernels, and then, with the back of the knife blade, you "milk" the cob: just scrape down the length of the cob, all around to get the corn milk out. Add that to the pan, along with the corn and wowza! I had forgotten about this! Thanks for the reminder!

  2. mmmmmmm southern to the core 😉 <3

love love love this stuff 🙂 Happy Monday, Ali! Thank you for linking up, sweetie!

  3. Made this tonight to go with burgers, baked beans, and strawberries for our 1st cookout of the season. The family raved, and my 2 year old little girl kept sticking her hands in the dish for more (this was after 3 helpings on her plate)! Will be a bbq staple in our home!

  4. This has to be one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted! Thanks for the recipe! I wanted to lick the dish clean, lol.

  5. This was such an easy and awesome change to normal steamed corn! Simple and very tasty! I used 4 ears of fresh corn and a little less sugar. Was awesome! Totally agree with others comments that my husband would have licked the pan. Definitely making this again….and again…and again!

  6. Being from the south sweet fried corn is a regular on the table for dinner or supper. I've made it different ways over the years but this is the way my Grannie made it. It's also one of the easiest & tastiest ways to fix it. Y'all can reduce the calorie count by using 1/2 & 1/2 and I doubt anyone will be able to tell the difference. Thanks for keeping a southern tradition going and for the great recipes!!

  7. Actually, you can mix the butter on the corn while it was cooking on the stove but put it on medium-low heat so that the butter won't burn

  8. This sounds amazing. Making it tonight for first time. Sounds easy enough that even I can do it. Thanks so much for the recipe

  9. This was amazing and so easy to make. I couldn’t get it to the plate fast enough. I will see how my boyfriend likes it once he gets off work. Thanks for making one of my favorite dishes so easy to make.
